Toronado Closes After 12 Years in North Park

With coronavirus concerns mounting across the nation, many businesses are temporarily closing their doors per California and Gavin Newsome’s recommendation.

However, one North Park classic is closing their doors for good – Toronado.

A beer bar that put North Park’s beer scene on the map, Toronado has been serving up some of the rarest beers in San Diego for 12 years. Annually, they tapped a few kegs of Pliny the Younger even.

However, competition and other factors put owner Ian Black between a rock and a hard place.

He announced Monday via Instagram that Toronado would close and not re-open. Though the closure was expected, it left many sad as there was no official last day or send off party.

It is expected that their location will be replaced with a taproom from a local San Diego brewery. Stay tuned…

UPDATE 5/6: Toronado is officially closed and the famous sign was taken down (see below).
