Athletic Brewing Acquires Former-Ballast Point Brewing Space

A non-alcoholic beer company is making a splash in San DIego.

According to Forbes, Connecticut-based Athletic Brewing has acquired a 80,000 square-foot facility formerly owned by Ballast Point to go along with their $17.5 million Series B Round funding.

Located on Trade Street near the main Ballast Point location in Miramar, the brewery once housed Ballast Point’s sours and barrel-aged experiments. It went under last April amid all that Constellation craziness.

Surprisingly though, Athletic Brewing isn’t in sours game at all. In fact, they’re not even in the traditional beer game at all! Instead, they make non-alcoholic beer tailored for a more active audience.

With sunshine and body conscious individuals all across San Diego and Southern California, we will see if Athletic Brewing can find some new west coast fans and make their new space worthwhile.

This comes on the heels of Ballast Point’s plea to San Diego and the craft community at large that they’ve returned to their roots.
